Bridge Renovation in Summer 2025: Services and Attractions in Suomenlinna Open Normally
The bridge to Susisaari in front of the Suomenlinna Museum will be renovated. Services and attractions in Suomenlinna will remain open during the construction, as a temporary bridge will be in use throughout the renovation.

We recommend following the Blue Route, which guides visitors to services and attractions even during the bridge renovation. The route only makes a small detour at the Susisaari Bridge, where traffic is directed via a temporary bridge. The Suomenlinna Visitor Centre is ready to assist visitors. It is located at the Jetty Barracks near the main HSL ferry pier and is open daily.
Regular traffic continues as usual
The temporary bridge accommodates all traffic, so please be cautious in the area. Emergency vehicles, maintenance traffic and access to properties, sights and services is available throughout the construction period.
Waterbus traffic to the Tykistölahti pier will continue as normal during the renovation, but water traffic between Varvilahti and Tykistölahti bays will be closed during the works. Passage under the Susisaari Bridge will be closed at the end of May and reopened in the autumn.
Please note that the construction site will cause traffic between the service pier and the bridge, especially during the construction of the temporary bridge in May and its dismantling in the autumn. Work will take place on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and will cause some noise.
Take your time
The detour may affect delivery times within the fortress. The speed limit throughout Suomenlinna is 20 km/h, and extra time should be allowed near the bridge.
The renovation of the Susisaari Bridge is necessary due to the poor condition of its wooden deck. The renovation will include replacing the deck with a wider wooden surface, widening the abutments, and refurbishing the steel parts. Due to the painting of steel components, the work must be carried out during the summer.
The Governing Body of Suomenlinna is preparing the project in cooperation with the City of Helsinki and the Finnish Heritage Agency. The project is implemented by the City of Helsinki’s Urban Environment Division, which will provide more detailed updates as the project progresses.
