The Suomenlinna Open-air Theatre presents Juha Kukkonen’s dystopian stage adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s beloved Pinocchio story.
A poor carpenter carves a doll out of a piece of wood, and it unexpectedly comes to life. From this begins the adventure of Pinocchio, a kind-hearted wooden doll, in a world filled with dishonesty and greed, with the sole dream of becoming a real boy.
In a world where electric fences separate the rich from the poor and big corporations have trampled down humanity, Fox and Cat are ready to take advantage of Pinocchio’s gullibility as he tries to figure out what emotions are and why on earth they sometimes hurt.
Pinocchio is accompanied by Cricket, the voice of conscience, who tries to keep him on the straight and narrow. But it doesn’t prove to be an easy task at each step!
Ryhmäteatteri’s fast-paced performance offers the audience an unforgettable adventure in which the persistent heart of a boy carved from wood finds a glimmer of hope even when the world seems harsh and the core of humanity seems complicated to uncover.
