Living and entrepreneurship

Suomenlinna Sea Fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Finland’s most popular tourist attractions.

Suomenlinna is also a year-round home to 800 residents and one of Helsinki’s districts. In addition to visitors and residents, the operators in Suomenlinna serve 400 year-round and 500 summer employees. The fortress attracts around one million visitors annually.

Living in Suomenlinna

The Governing Body of Suomenlinna manages approximately 315 of the roughly 350 apartments in Suomenlinna. The apartments managed by the Governing Body are state-owned, non-subsidized rental apartments.

Suomenlinna is a village-like district where residents know each other. The islands are accessible only by ferry, making the ferry ride a part of many Suomenlinna residents’ daily routine. The fortress has a primary school, daycare, church, library, and grocery store. The rescue service operates in the area during the summer.

In winter, the fortress quiets down, but in summer, sunny days attract thousands of visitors to Suomenlinna.

Entrepreneurship

The goal of the World Heritage Convention is to increase appreciation for the unique heritage of different nations and to disseminate information about it. Currently, there are about thirty different operators in Suomenlinna: restaurants, cafes, museums, galleries. These entrepreneurs in the World Heritage site serve visitors interested in culture and high-quality products and services, committed to the values of the World Heritage site.

On this page, you can explore the business environment of Suomenlinna, as well as its customer flow and networks.
