Anu Halmesmaa: The Formula of Immortality (Hall 1) and Ella Tahkolahti: Mother’s Fabrics (Hall 2)
Anu Halmesmaa’s exhibition explores death and immortality with a fairy-tale aesthetic.
The Formula of Immortality exhibition engages with the acceptance of death and presents fantasies of immortality through a rich, fairytale-like aesthetic. It brings together forms found in nature with the fleshy human body and floral, shimmering spaces, where immortality appears as a constructed illusion—a space through which humans attempt to conceal their own mortality and the fleeting nature of life.
Ella Tahkolahti’s exhibition explores dementia, material inheritance, and the relationship between mother and daughter.
Mother’s Fabrics exists at the intersection of textile and installation art. The body of work is built around fabrics and tools the artist received from her mother as an advance inheritance, which serve as both a concrete and symbolic point of departure.
As part of the exhibition, Tahkolahti presents the performative work Umbilical Cord. This open-duration performance takes place on weekends during the exhibition’s opening hours.
