Volunteer work in Suomenlinna
Participate in voluntary yard work with your own group
The Governing Body of Suomenlinna gives companies and associations the opportunity to do volunteer work at the Suomenlinna UNESCO World Heritage Site. By volunteering, your group can contribute to the preservation of our common world heritage while spending a pleasant day in the maritime Suomenlinna.
What the voluntary yard work entails
The purpose of the voluntary yard work is to tend the landscape of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The volunteer work is determined by the current situation as to the seasonal work and landscape management. We can only offer volunteer work to a limited number of groups during the year. Among other things, the work may entail collecting and sorting beach waste, removing invasive species, raking mowing waste, collecting seeds or planting plants. There is more volunteer work on offer in the spring and autumn.
Work day schedule
The Governing Body of Suomenlinna is able to offer volunteer work on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. The work groups are typically expected to work for 2–3 hours. We provide the group with a work site, guidance and work tools and, in the course of the work, information about the World Heritage Site. The joint work is tailored to the groups based on the time of year and the jobs on offer. We take the wishes of the groups into account in the planning of the work day.
The group can spend the whole day in Suomenlinna. From the fortress’ restaurants and cafés to its museums, galleries and other attractions, the World Heritage Site offers many excellent options to make for a pleasant stay.
For summer 2023, the volunteer positions have already been filled.
Applications can still be sent, as groups will be accepted again from September 2023 onwards.
